William Walter “Bill” Ayers, 90 of Jackson, TN died July 19, 2017, at the Martha Jo Leslie State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. He was born in Rolla, MO on December 25, 1926, the son of the late Walter Hugo and Alma Blanche Wallace Ayers. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS LST534, where he was wounded at Brown Beach, Okinawa, Japan on June 22, 1945, always carrying with him the logo, “Not for self, but country”. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion Department of Tennessee, and a dedicated employee of the GM&O/ICG Railroad for thirty-eight years of service. He will be remembered for his love of family, Kindness and generosity.
He is survived by a son, Roger Ayers of Savannah, TN; a daughter and son in law, Ann and Jerry Jobe of Sturgis, MS; a brother, George Ayers and wife Dale of Ramer, TN; a sister, Helen Curtis of Eastview, TN; also, to include grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Sue Ayers; a brother, Wallace Ayers and sister in law, Shirley Clayton Ayers; a sister, Louise Yarbrough; an infant sister, Alma Ayers and a brother in law, Gene Curtis.
SERVICE: In loving memory a funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 22, 2017 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Taft Ayers, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Ayers, Dan Ayers, Billy Ayers, Ronnie Ayers, C.B. Baldwin and Jimmy Harbin.
