William Joseph Lasley

June 2, 1929 — July 18, 2021

William (Bill) Joseph Lasley

William Joseph Lasley, age 92, died July 18, 2021, peacefully in his home after an extended illness. The family rejoices that he has entered eternity.

William (Bill, as his friends and family called him) was born in Jackson, TN on June 2, 1929. He is survived by his children, Ronnie Lasley (Suzan) of Jackson, TN, Vickie Hill (Glenn) of College Grove, TN, Greg Lasley (Melise) of Humboldt, TN, Lori Beck (Doug) of Franklin, TN, and Paula Rankin (Wes) of Nashville, TN; 13 grandchildren, Shelley Shanks, Annah Moore, Spencer Hill, Joseph Lasley, John Lasley, Will Lasley, Diannah Kirton, Kathryn Lasley, Neal Lasley, Meredith Beck, Alex Beck, Allison Rankin, and Kristin Myers; 10 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Eleanor Rose Haskins, of Jackson, TN and Sarah Ralls, of Gilbert, AZ.

Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Weaver Lasley; parents, Thomas Raymond Lasley and Annie Day Kirby Lasley, and siblings, Thomas Raymond Lasley, Jr., Raymond Kirby Lasley, Edwin Lasley, and Anne Shaw.

Bill graduated from North Side High School and was on the first football team formed, making the very first touchdown for the North Side Indians. After high school he attended Lambuth College for a few semesters then joined the Navy (1951-1955). After the Navy Bill was employed at Consolidated Aluminum Foil in Jackson, TN from 1956-1991, at which time he retired. His family was very important in his life, and he devoted much of his time attending the grandchildren’s sports activities, camping, and family gatherings for special occasions and the holidays. He grew up on a farm in Jackson and continued working on his family farm part-time raising cattle and pigs in his early married life, then later planted cotton, soybeans, and big gardens for all the families to enjoy. When he was not working his full-time job or farming, he was repairing his children’s cars or tinkering around his home. His favorite place to vacation was Panama City Beach with his family. In his retirement years he played men’s softball and was on the Senior Olympics team for several years. Bill enjoyed his weekdays after retirement walking at the Old Hickory Mall and meeting his buddies for coffee. He was a long-time member of Englewood Baptist Church where Bill was a faithful member of his Sunday School class and the worship service. He loved the Lord and his church family.
