William Horton

Funeral services for William ?Oscar? Horton, 92, will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in the chapel of Englewood Baptist Church with Dr. Philip Jett, Rev. Paul Williams and Dr. Brent Lay officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Mr. Horton died on Friday, January 6, 2012 at the home of his son. Mr. Horton was born on November 22, 1919 in Decatur County, TN the son of the late James Henry and Ola Maness Horton. He received his early education in Decatur County, later moving to Madison County where he graduated from Huntersville School. Oscar joined the military and was stationed in Marshall Islands with the Navy. He was attached with the 4th Amphibious Tractor Division of the Marines. He was honored with several medals for bravery and saving lives. He served as a Corpsman while in service. After his service he returned home and courted Miss Ida Mae Stovall. They married on January 21, 1946 and made their home for a while in Malesus. Oscar worked in various jobs, but Kelly Foods and U.S.D.A. were his greatest accomplishments. He raised many gardens for sharing with family and friends. He was retired from the U.S.D.A. He was a member of Englewood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae Horton of Jackson, TN; a son, Eddie Horton and wife Linda of Jackson, TN; two daughters, Ola Mae Mallard and husband Ken of Paducah, KY and Mary Ruth Adams and husband James of Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Ruth Graves of Jackson, TN; six grandchildren, Ronald Heidelberg and wife Teresa, Donald Heidelberg and wife Nikki, William Gilliam and wife Angie, Lisa Horton, Jimmy Horton and wife Christina, Kacey Adams, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a grandson, Jerry Gilliam; two brothers, John Henry Horton and James Paul Horton and a sister, Reba Creasy. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at Arrington Funeral Directors. Arrington Funeral Directors 148 W.
