It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Todd Childress, fondly known as Todd, who left this world on March 5, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on December 21, 1963, Todd’s journey through life was marked by a spirit that radiated love, joy, and an unwavering affection for those around him.
Todd was a beacon of warmth, known for his loving nature and the profound impact he had on everyone who crossed his path. He was born with disabilities that gave him obstacles throughout his life, but he never let it get him down. Though he was non-verbal, his ability to express unconditional love was felt deeply by all. The word “mama” was cherished by his mother and echoed through their shared moments, embodying the bond that connected them. His hyperactive spirit brought smiles and laughter, filling the rooms he entered with a sense of joy that few could forget.
Educationally, Todd graduated from Special Education Classes at South Side High School, where he truly shined in the light of acceptance and camaraderie. His time spent at the Madison Haywood Developmental Services Center was transformative, allowing him to grow and thrive in a nurturing environment. Later, he found a home at Maplewood Health Care, where he spent the last two years of his life. There, he was treated with compassion, care, and respect, surrounded by staff who adored him as much as he adored them.
In addition to the love he received, Todd had an array of interests that brought him genuine happiness. He was an avid fan of cartoons, often delighting in the animated adventures showcased on not just one, but two televisions in his room, allowing him to immerse himself fully in his favorite stories. His Rubik's cube was a constant companion, a fidgeting source of joy that mirrored his zest for life. He will carry his Rubik's cube in Heaven with him, as he was never without it.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Joyce Childress; brother, Brian Childress (Melissa); and nephew, Brayden Childress. He was preceded in death by his father, Ira Childress.
A graveside service to remember Todd will be held at Oakfield Cemetery on March 9, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., allowing friends and family to gather in celebration of the beautiful life he lived. Brother Mickey Jackson and Brother Robert Caldwelll will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Madison Haywood Developmental Services at 27 Conrad Drive, Jackson, TN 38305.
As we bid farewell to Todd, we carry his memory with us, cherishing the moments that defined him and the love that enveloped him throughout his life. His spirit will continue to live on through the lives he touched, reminding us all of the power of love and connection.
