Wayne Neal Holmes

October 23, 1957 — August 26, 2024

Medina, TN

Wayne Holmes, age 66, entered his Heavenly Home on Monday, August 26, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 23, 1957, in Jackson, TN, he was the son of Barney and Illda Craig Holmes. Raised in Oakfield, he attended school in Madison County, graduating from North Side High School in 1975.

During his 30 years with Jackson Energy Authority, he saw many weather emergencies, such as tornadoes, ice storms, and others, where he immediately left in his work truck, prepared to be gone for several days.

Wayne had a passion for serving people in need, hence his 14 mission trips to Haiti, where he and his wife, Geni, were on the board of directors for a Christian home for girls. He saw one of his childhood dreams come true when he became an over-the-road truck driver, then a driver for a mobile medical unit for Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, traveling to schools to help children. Wayne was a communicant of St Mary's Catholic Church.

His love for stock car racing began at an early age, even before he learned to walk. His love for racing continued, working with pit crews for several teams and became an excellent jackman. Sharing that passion with his children, he introduced them to dirt tracks when they were young, and also taught them to hunt, the importance of gun safety and the ethic of working hard. Always active in his children’s lives, he helped coach baseball and accompanied them on boy scout rafting and camp outs. Wayne could be tough at times, but he took great pride in seeing the fine adults his children became.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Heather Rushing and brother-in-law, Dale Childress.

To forever cherish his memory, Wayne leaves his wife of 48 years and the love of his life, Geni Holmes and their children, Logan Holmes (Savannah), Lyle Holmes (Rachel) and Leia Webb (Adam). His 8 precious grandchildren, Skylar Ray (Dalton), Gage Webb, Maddox Holmes, Miller Holmes, Sydney Holmes, Maley Holmes, Scarlett Holmes and Gunner Holmes were his pride and joy.
