Warren E. Johnson, a beloved husband, father, and friend, has peacefully passed away at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital on January 29, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on March 17, 1934, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Walter L. and Katherine Maine Johnson. Warren lived a life filled with dedication, love, and remarkable accomplishments.
His professional journey spanned thirty years at Porter Cable in Jackson, TN where he served as a maintenance technician. His commitment to his work was evident in the quality of his service, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the industry as a whole. On his toolbox he pushed out into the plant each day was Colossians 3:23, a verse he lived by: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
He served proudly in the United States Air Force as an aircraft engine mechanic at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna, TN and served during the Korean War Conflict giving unwavering loyalty to his country where his dedication to duty will always be remembered. During the time he was in the Air Force, he was a member of the Air Force choir and sang with the Keynote Choir group traveling across the country.
Warren had a gentle spirit and a loving heart that touched the lives of everyone around him. He was known for his ability to fix anything that came his way and was fondly considered a "Mr. Fix-it" by those who knew him best. Beyond his skillful handiwork, Warren had a love of singing and music and has sung in many churches and choirs over his life. Additionally, Warren and Opal had an adventurous side that manifested itself in their love for traveling the US and abroad.
It comes as no surprise that Warren's selflessness extended even further into being a volunteer firefighter in Plymouth, Minnesota. His willingness to put others before himself was admirable and demonstrates the true essence of his character.
A man deeply devoted to his faith and community, Warren and his wife Opal most recently attended Fellowship Bible Church. Earlier in his faith journey Warren participated in lay witness missions sharing his love of Christ with others wherever he would go. His involvement has made a significant impact within the church community and beyond.
Warren leaves behind cherished memories with those closest to him: his loving wife Opal Phillips Johnson; their children Adrienne Otto (husband Jimmy) of Darien, GA, Tammy Hurst (husband John) of Jackson, TN, and Eric Johnson (wife Emily) of Jackson, TN; as well as his sister Marlene Randall of Bethel, Minnesota. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Lindsey Carr (Tyler) Blake Johnson (Meg), Adam Clarke, Andrew Clarke (Mary Margaret), David Childs (Kaeley), Kim Childs Seay (Darius), Andrew Childs, Candice Crews (Jesse), Amy Edmiston (Max), Heather Wright and Blair Moore and fourteen great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
