Virginia K. Whitman, age 100, died peacefully at her Jackson, TN residence, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Gibson County, TN the daughter of the late Leo and Lennie Via Mullins. She was married to Bennie L. Whitman who preceded her in death in 2009. Virginia and Bennie owned and operated the Food Bank located in downtown Jackson which was known locally for its top-quality meats and fruit baskets. She was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church, who took immense pride in caring for her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening and was an excellent cook, making the “best” fried chicken and other southern dishes.
Virginia is survived by her children, Alice Whitman Breeden of Bolivar, TN, Brenda Whitman Nanney of Jackson, TN, Terri Ann Whitman of Jackson, TN, and Benny Ray Whitman of Amsterdam, The Netherlands; seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Mullins and Leslie Mullins, her sister, Hazel Webb and a granddaughter, Susan Breeden LaGesse.
SERVICE: A graveside service for Mrs. Whitman will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Highland Memorial Gardens.
