Thomas Alexander “Tom” Spain, age 61, died on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
A native of Jackson and Madison County, Tom was born on July 29, 1953, the son of the late Charles Sidney and Gladys Alexander Spain. He was a graduate of Lambuth University and was retired from the Social Security Administration as a service representative. Tom was a lover of the outdoors and was an avid wildlife photographer. He enjoyed music, literature, the adventures of reading, as well as mastering crossword puzzles. For many years he was an avid runner. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Tom is survived by his wife Gail (Murchison) Spain of Jackson, TN; a daughter, Leigh Ann Spain Garst and her children, Jonah and Elijah Garst of Jackson, TN; a step-son, Ricky Glenn Smith (Natasha) and their children, Ricky “R.J.” Smith and Charles “C.J.” Spates of Jackson, TN and a brother Sid Spain (Doris) of Medon, TN
SERVICE: A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 1, 2015 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Jimmy Dyer and Rex Fowler officiating. A private committal service will follow the service. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 1:00 PM until service time.
Pallbearers will be Jonah Garst, Sid Alan Spain, Rex Fowler, Stephen King, Caleb Spain, Billy Murchison, Nathan Thompson and Mike Clark.
The family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association West Tennessee Office, 713 S. Mendenhall Road, Memphis, TN 38117.
