Funeral services for Theo Leathers, age 86, will be held Monday, September 17, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with burial to follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Theo was born on March 28, 1926, to George Robert and Nannie Belle Esrey Leathers in Mercer, TN. He was a veteran of World War II and graduated from Lambuth College where he excelled in basketball and baseball, and where he met his beautiful future bride, Agnes. He enjoyed a 40-year career with Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company serving as the Vice President of Claims at the time of his retirement. He was a long-time member of West Jackson Baptist Church and served his Lord and others in many capacities.
Mr. Leathers is survived by his wife Agnes Cooper Leathers; four daughters and their husbands: Lisa and Joe White, Carol and Jimmy Dyer, Ava and John Johnsey, Sharon and Scott Butler; nine grandchildren: Misty Adair Howard, Alicia Adair, Jon Acuff, Andrew Acuff, Leah Acuff White, Ellen Johnsey, Ben Johnsey, Nathan Butler, Kimberly Butler; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers and their wives: J. W. and Clara Leathers of Toone, Leo and Joanne Leathers of Huntingdon, Kenneth and Dorothy Leathers of Jackson. A sister, Theda Leathers, preceded him in death last year.
