Susie Meriwether Dougan, age 96, was born March 10, 1919 and died on January 3, 2016.
She was the widow of John P. Dougan Jr. who preceded her in 1996. She was the daughter of the late Louis Bond Meriwether and Patty Hinton Meriwether. She was a great-great granddaughter of James Meriwether and Louis Bond, the founders of the Huntersville and Bond’s Crossing communities in the early 1820’s. Some of her family’s original farm that was established in 1823, was still held by the family. She was a 1938 graduate of the Huntersville High School. She was an active member of Ararat Baptist Church for over eighty years, where she began teaching Sunday school classes at the age of 20. She and her husband Johnnie were charter members of Wilhite’s Truck Stop ministry.
She is survived by two sons, John P. “Pat” Dougan, III and wife Ann and Louis Edward “Eddie” Dougan and wife Starla all of Jackson, TN; one granddaughter, Crystal Cook (Marc) of Knoxville, TN; two grandsons, Todd Dougan (Marie) and Brian Dougan (Amy) of Jackson, TN; six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, one step great granddaughter and one step great-great granddaughter.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Ararat Cemetery with Rev. J.V. Davis officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Ararat Baptist Church prior to the service.
