Sam Alexander

  Sammy Kent Alexander, age 73, died Monday, August 14, 2023, at his home following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. 

   Born on November 14, 1949, in Jackson, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Joe and Anne Alexander. Sammy graduated from the “old” Jackson High in 1967 and attended both Jackson State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He married Janet Moore Alexander on February 11, 1972. 

   Sam worked for more than 24 years at Procter & Gamble in Jackson. He loved his family deeply, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, boating on the Tennessee River, water skiing, playing the guitar, and cheering on his two favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tennessee Volunteers. He treasured the many good friends in his life as well. 

   Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Alexander, who died at birth, his paternal grandparents, John and Beulah Alexander, and his maternal grandparents, John Garrett, and Leora Yarbro. He was also preceded in death by a precious grandson, Grant Alexander in 2009.

   Those left to forever cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Janet Moore Alexander; his children, Joshua “Josh” Kent Alexander (Stephanie Hamilton Alexander) of Franklin, TN, and Zachary “Zach” Adam Alexander (Sandy Hruby Alexander) of Jackson, TN; four grandchildren, Lillie Claire and Will Alexander, and Grayson and Lola Alexander; and siblings, Steve Alexander (Shelby) of Franklin, Tennessee, Pam Bolding (Riley) of Gadsden, Tennessee, and Joanne Rice of North Carolina, along with many nieces and nephews. 

SERVICE: The Funeral Service for Sam will be held Friday, August 18, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Chuck Maxwell officiating, at Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 West University Parkway, Jackson TN 38305. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 11:00 a.m. until the service time begins at 1:00 p.m.

   In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Sam and Grant Alexander’s memory to Charlie’s Kids, an organization advocating for Safe Sleep and the prevention of SIDS, P.O.
