Ruth Averett Smith

Ruth Smith, 85, passed away Saturday May 10, 2014 at Regional Hospital of Jackson. She was born June 7, 1928 in Decatur Co., TN the daughter of the late B.S. and Beatrice Averett and was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Herman Smith; two brothers, Herman Averett and Newman Averett.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Smith Phillips of Memphis, TN; a granddaughter, Marcia Ruth Phillips and a great granddaughter, Chloe Nicole Waters all of Memphis, TN.; a brother, Marvin Averett of Scotts Hill, TN; two sisters in law, Ruth Averett of Decaturville, TN and Joyce Averett Of Scott Hill and a brother in law, William Smith of Parsons, TN and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth was a homemaker for 60 years. Prior to that, she had attended Business College in Nashville and was a professional secretary for TVA. She graduated from Scotts Hill High School as Valedictorian of her senior class. She was a member of North Jackson Church of Christ for many years and a former bible school teacher.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Arrington Funeral Directors with David Powell officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
