Ruth was born October 19, 1918, in Fairview, KY. Her childhood was spent on the family farm. She received her formal education in the Fairview area.
In 1949, she married Frank Read, and enjoyed a long and loving relationship of 60 years. Mr. Read had a long career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which had them living primarily in Bowling Green, KY and Jackson, TN, and most recently in Dyersburg, where Ruth lived until her death. While in Bowling Green, Ruth was active with the Cub Scouts as den mother. She was completely devoted to her family and took great pride in being known as a dedicated “homemaker”. She took even greater pride in her “boys” and later the daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved her family and always stayed in touch. While living in Jackson, TN, she became an avid league bowler and won several trophies. She was particularly proud of being one of the daily walkers at the Jackson Mall, where she logged at least 8,000 miles and was subsequently awarded a plaque for that achievement.
Many of her most fond memories were with her devoted spouse while traveling the country in their motor home. Trips to Alaska and Nova Scotia were taken, as were many other exciting destinations across the country. Winters were often spent in Florida.
She was an active member of the Church of Christ, having served at Allen and Edgewood Church of Christ in Jackson, TN and in various capacities at North Jackson Church of Christ until her death.
Immediate survivors include son, David R. Read and wife Charleen, son Ron B. Read and wife, Libby, grandchildren, Brian Read (Chantelle), Ashley Read Wilson (David), Christopher Read, Joshua Read, and Allison Read Williams (Kyle), great grandsons, Noah Read, Asher Read, Eli Read, and Rhett Wilson, sister, Ophelia Sherrill, and numerous nieces and nephews.
