Russell Thomas Childress, a loving family man and member of this community, was born on March 16, 1942, in Tinsman, Arkansas. He peacefully departed this life on January 24, 2025, in Humboldt, Tennessee, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication.

Throughout his life, Russell pursued many different careers, always embracing new opportunities with a spirit of adventure. Among his varied jobs, he proudly served as a bus driver, even humorously recalling the time when he did so without a license. However, his favorite role was as the owner and operator of Share and Care, a testament to his caring nature.

Russell was known not just for his work ethic, but for his deep love for his family. His daughter fondly remembers the hours he spent sewing beautiful clothing for her as a child, crafting entire outfits that showcased his devotion. His grandchildren cherish the memories of him crocheting blankets that brought them comfort, as well as his infamous cooking that delighted the entire family.

A man of great compassion and integrity, Russell epitomized the qualities of a loving caregiver. He dedicated himself tirelessly to caring for his papa during a time of illness and later provided unwavering support to his wife until her passing in 2010. He was a devoted and loving husband, ensuring she received the utmost care during her time of need.

Russell's patriotism was evident in his military service, having honored his country by serving in both the Army and Air Force. At the veteran's home where he resided, he took on the role of resident President, demonstrating his commitment to improving the living environment for his fellow veterans. Recently, he had focused on an initiative to plant roses outside the home, a reflection of his desire to enhance beauty and hope in the lives of those around him.

Beyond his responsibilities, Russell enjoyed his time with the Board of Northside Assembly of God, where he shared his passion for faith and community. He had an immense love for animals, as well as people.  He could often be found sharing joy with those around him, always equipped with a bucket of candy that included Milky Ways, Salt Water Taffy, Peppermints, and Three Musketeers, which he distributed to spread happiness.

Russell Thomas Childress's proudest accomplishment was his unwavering love for his family, a sentiment echoed by all who knew him. He embodied the essence of care and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts of everyone he met. His warm spirit, generous heart, and delightful sense of humor will be profoundly missed but will forever resonate in the cherished memories of his loved ones.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Natalie Tucker (Rod);  grandchildren, Colton Tucker (Jennifer) and Lauren Schoate (Chris); great-grandchildren, Zeke, Anna, and Sadie; and brother, Jimmy Childress.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Delois Ann Childress; grandson, Christopher Thomas Tucker; parents, Russell L. Childress and Lura Cox Childress Lewis; and brother, Robert Childress.

A funeral service to celebrate Russell's life will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.  The burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
