Robert Michael King
June 13, 1955 – February 25, 2025
Mickey, as he was known, passed away peacefully at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital after an unexpected illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Mickey brought a steadiness and joy to those lucky enough to be around him throughout his life. As a child, he was passionately committed to a number of interests in his hometown of Iuka, Mississippi. He spent summers driving a speed boat around Pickwick. He played football, drove a motorcycle, and sang in the choir. Mickey was proud to have been a graduate of the University of Mississippi, earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1982. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity. He especially enjoyed cheering on the Rebels in his Colonel Rebel mascot role. Mickey was magnetic.
As dedicated as Mickey was to all of his interests, his family was his proudest accomplishment. His wife Vicky was at the top of that list. They met in childhood, married during pharmacy school, had three accomplished daughters and had the privilege of celebrating 47 years of marriage. Mickey and Vicky spent the last 14 years as incredible grandparents to their 8 grandchildren and traveling to enjoy his other greatest passion, music. His love for music knew no bounds, though jazz, folk, bluegrass, and gospel were true favorites. He knew the details in the music, the mechanics and the notes, and loved sharing that passion with those closest to him.
Mickey loved routine and intentionally worked hard to care for the body he was given. He stressed the excitement he had for the years ahead to love his people well. He wanted that fiercely.
He loved Jesus. He was the best Pop. He was intelligent and led his family well.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie King, and his parents, the late Dr. Bobby King and Clara Barlow King.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Vicky C. King. Mickey also leaves behind his cherished children, Jessica King and her wife Leslie of Harrison, TN; Dr. Jennifer K. Patel of Chattanooga, TN; Katherine Vinson and husband Lance of Nashville, TN; sisters, Cindy Phillips and husband Gary of Brandon, MS; and Susan Hopkins of Atlanta, GA. His grandchildren, Reid Patel, Henry Patel, Kate Patel, Sam Patel, River King, Bennett King, Eva Vinson, and Lottie Vinson, will carry forward his legacy and determination.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors.
The family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to The Parkinson's Foundation, 15757 Waterford District Drive, Ste 310, Miami, FL 33126 or online at www.parkinson.org
Robert Michael "Mickey" King will be remembered for his deep dedication to those around him he cared for. No matter which area of life you knew him in, he brought a calm security and a lot of laughter and that will be deeply missed by us all. May his memory be treasured and his legacy endure in the lives of those he loved.
