Rhonda Kathy Wheat, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 75 on March 12, 2025, in Jackson, Tennessee. Born on December 9, 1949, in McKenzie, Tennessee, Rhonda led a life characterized by her unwavering commitment to service and her extraordinary talent for inspiring those around her.
For many years, Rhonda worked as a diamond consultant at Service Merchandise, where she gained a reputation not only for her exceptional skills but also for her deep dedication to her clients. Her keen eye for detail and passion for her work allowed her to excel in her career, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with her.
Beyond her professional achievements, Rhonda was a beacon of light for young athletes. She took great pride in making trophies for their accomplishments, celebrating their efforts and motivating them to persevere. She always made sure all the kids in boxing had a way to go to and from events and training. She treated those kids like they were her own family. Rhonda was a mom to many of them. Her mentorship extended into the boxing community, where she guided and inspired young children, fostering their love for the sport. As a part of the Golden Gloves of America Boxing and on the U.S. Boxing Organization committee and board, Rhonda’s passion for boxing took her to new heights, including participating in the U.S. Olympics Boxing Organization and traveling to Colorado Springs. She was the first licensed female second in the state for boxing.
Aside from her devotion to the youth and boxing, she was also dedicated to her community. She was always making food to take to the homeless shelter and first responders.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Chris Wheat; step-children, David Collins, Rayford Collins, Jr., and Michael Collins; grandchildren, Aiden Hilary Wheat, Michelle Hayes, Rachel Hayes, and Launa Hayes; siblings, James Hilary Wheat and Ann Weathers; and furbaby, Rowdy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford Collins; daughter-in-law, Melissa Wheat; parents, Hilary and Margie Wheat; and brothers, Ronnie and Donnie Wheat.
