Rebecca Christine Grisham, age 91, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her Jackson, TN residence surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on December 25, 1933, in Ripley, MS, the daughter of the late George Homer and Lizzie Rickles Mauney. Rebecca spent her formative years growing up in a household rich with love and hard work, instilling in her the values that would carry her throughout her life.
The daughter of a devoted father who served as an Elder for forty years, Rebecca grew up alongside her seven siblings in a nurturing environment where faith was paramount. She often described herself as a farm girl, recalling fond memories of picking cotton and milking cows among other chores. The family not only managed the farm but also operated a country store, where dedication and resilience were core principles taught to all the children. Despite the labor-intensive lifestyle, happiness prevailed in their home, creating lasting bonds that would endure through the years.
With a passion for nurturing young minds, Rebecca dedicated over forty years to her role as Director of Macon Road Church of Christ Daycare in Memphis. Her love for teaching and communicating with children shone brightly during her time there, and she frequently taught Bible classes, fostering a strong spiritual foundation among the youth.
Rebecca's journey was not without its challenges. She faced the loss of the love of her life, Clarence Hudson Grisham, in 2014, shortly after relocating from Memphis to Jackson. However, she continued to embrace life, finding joy in her passions such as gardening, tending to her Koi Pond, and traveling with her sister, Dixie, and her niece, Rita. Her commitment to wellness was exemplified through her weekly exercise classes at the Westwood Senior Center, and she was proud to maintain her independence, making frequent trips to visit family in North Mississippi.
Rebecca leaves behind a cherished family. She is survived by her sons, Nick Grisham and wife Mara of Cleveland, TN, and Gary Grisham and wife Susan. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren who was affectionally known to them as Mama Teen, Lee Grisham, Mallory Parrish and husband Michael, and Benjamin Grisham and wife Annie, along with her great-grandchildren, Wilson Grisham, Hudson Grisham, Lilah Parrish, Abigail Parrish, and Lucy Parrish. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her forty-four nieces and nephews, who knew her as Aunt Teen.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Mildred, Willard, Genise, Faye, Bille and Lance.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of West Tennessee Healthcare and the Kirkland Cancer Center for their special care during her illness. They also extend heartfelt thanks to all her brothers and sisters in Christ at North Jackson church of Christ for their calls, visits, and prayers during this time.
