Funeral services for retired Master Sergeant Prentice M. Chumney USAF, 72, will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 14, 2011 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Dan Bruce officiating. Burial services are incomplete with Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Mr. Chumney died on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the Humboldt General Hospital.A native of Scotts Hill, TN he was born on October 2, 1938, the son of the late J. Coy and Lillian Volner Chumney. After graduating from Scotts Hill High School in 1957, Prentice joined the United States Air Force serving overseas tours in Libya and Guam. Stateside assignments included two assignments to the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon for a cumulative total of 13-1/2 years of his 20-year career. For four years of his assignment with the Joint Chiefs of Staff he was assigned to the National Emergency Abn. Command Post which can, in the event of war, serve as a command post for the President. He also served for ten years as supervisor of the maintenance staff at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. After his retirement from the military Mr. Chumney operated an electronics repair business.He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Mary Ann Chumney of Scotts Hill, TN; a brother, J.E. ?Jimmy? Chumney and wife Betty of Jackson, TN and a sister, Marlene Powers and husband H.T. of Scotts Hill, TN.The family is requesting no flowers with memorial contributions to be directed to the charity of the donor?s choice.The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM and on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Arrington Funeral Directors.Arrington Funeral Directors148 W.
