Patsy Ruth Simmons Ellis, age 80, entered her heavenly home on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Maplewood Healthcare Center in Jackson, TN. Born on Wednesday, December 30, 1942, in Humboldt, TN, she was the oldest daughter to Oursler E. and Martha “Ruth” Ferguson Simmons.
Her education began in Gadsden, TN, and continued in the Humboldt School System where she graduated in 1960. She attended West TN Business College in Jackson, TN, receiving a Junior Accounting Degree in 1962. On October 18, 1964, Patsy married the late Floyd Ellis, Jr. and they completed their family with the birth of their son, Chris.
A large part of her professional career was spent in the life insurance field with Jefferson Standard Life Insurance and Guardian Life. She then worked for twenty-six years in the Labor & Delivery Department at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, retiring in 2014. She was a much-loved co-worker and was chosen Employee of the Month in October 1992.
Patsy was an active member of the former East Chester Church of Christ and at Campbell Street Church of Christ. For many years, she taught the 4 and 5-year-old Bible class and was active in the senior group, RTBAGAS. Every Christmas, she made over 250 stockings to be filled with goodies for area organizations serving families, children, and others in need. She loved photography and sharing the pictures she took with others. She was a resident at Maplewood since October 2014 and was named Resident of the Month in 2018.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Floyd Christopher “Chris” Ellis (Vickie) of Pleasant View, TN; grandson Corey Ellis; granddaughter, Lindsey Ellis; sisters, Betty (Dennis) Robison, and Mary Lee (Loyd) Spivey, and a brother, Dr. John O. Simmons (Beverly).
SERVICES: The Funeral service for Patsy Ellis will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Dr. Ralph Gilmore officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Corey Ellis, Chris Ellis, Steve Allen, John Tibbs, Edward Robison, and Trent Tyson.
