Michael David Thornburg

September 6, 1965 — March 11, 2025

Jackson

Michael David Thornburg, fondly known as Mike, departed this life on March 11, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born on September 6, 1965, in the vibrant city of Knoxville, Tennessee and he embarked on a remarkable journey that would see him touch the lives of many with his infectious spirit and joy for life.

After graduating from Powell High School, Mike devoted over thirty years of his life as a bridge foreman at Norfolk Southern Railroad. He cherished the camaraderie of his coworkers, whom he considered a second family.

Beyond his career, Mike embraced life with a heart full of joy and adventure. He was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers, proudly wearing his orange and white, cheering for his team through thick and thin. Social gatherings with friends in Knoxville brought him immense happiness, and he delighted in the excitement of attending games with those who shared his enthusiasm. Among the many facets of his vibrant life, fishing and motorcycles stood out as beloved pastimes. With a particular affection for Harley Davidsons, Mike found freedom on the open road, where the wind could rush past him and remind him of the thrill of adventure.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifteen years, Connie Thornburg; daughter, Hailee Tillery (Matt); grandchildren, Lucy and Beckham Tillery; and friends and family from Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Catherine Rivers Thornburg.

In true Mike fashion, he would have wanted those who knew him to celebrate his life with laughter and joy, rather than sorrow. In his honor, there will be a service to celebrate his life at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 16, 2025, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service time. Brother Scott Bloodworth will officiate.

As we reflect on the cherished moments shared with Mike, let us carry forward his spirit of joy and celebration, always remembering the light he brought into our lives.
