Mary Adelia Rust

Mary Adelia (De) Smith Rust, age 78, died on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Jackson-Madison County Hospital after a long illness. De was born and raised in Jackson, TN, the daughter of Edward and Mary Webb Smith. De graduated from Jackson High (Class of 1961) and she attended West Tennessee Business College. She had a multi-faceted work life, and was widely known from her stint as Sales & Marketing Director for the Old English Inn-Sheraton Inn in Jackson, TN. A member of Harris Grove Methodist Church, she greatly enjoyed singing in choir. De was also an avid reader, gardener and bird watcher. She was devoted to her family, and expressed it through great meals, holiday parties and the annual Smith reunions (which she often organized).

De is survived by her two sons, Christopher (Kathryn) Matthews of Red Hook, NY, and Stephen Matthews of Jackson, TN; one daughter, Angela (Allen) Burney of Jackson, TN; one sister, Patti S. Bryant of Jackson, TN; one niece: Tina Harvey, two nephews, David Bryant and Scott Bryant; two grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Her husband, Doyle F. Rust, her parents and her brother, James S. Smith, preceded her in death.

SERVICES: A Graveside Service will be held privately for the family, but a Celebration of Life Service for Adelia will be scheduled at a later date.
