Funeral services for Mary Lou Higdon, 84, will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at West Jackson Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Rogers of Jonesville, MI officiating. Rev. Rogers is a former pastor and retired Director of Missions with North American Missions Board. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Arrington Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.Mrs. Higdon was born on January 2, 1927, in Henning, TN, the daughter of the late Robert and Vera Clark Lankford. She married Dr. Herbert R. Higdon on June 20, 1947, a union that has lasted for 64 years. She attended Union University and taught elementary school in Memphis, TN and Dyer, TN. She loved being a pastor?s wife, as well as teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She also enjoyed traveling and cooking.She is survived by her husband, Dr. Herbert Higdon of Jackson, TN; three daughters, Anita Simmons and husband Jim of Memphis, TN, Nancy Tucker and husband Tommy of Jackson, TN and Susan Hopper and husband Don of Jackson, TN; three grandchildren, Ben Hoskins and wife Tabitha, Rebecca Tucker and Zachary Tucker and two great grandchildren, Hope and Hannah Hoskins; one brother, Billy Lankford and wife Joyce of Ripley and a sister-in-law, Marie Lankford of Ripley, TN.Pallbearers to serve will be Zachary Tucker, Jim Simmons, Tommy Tucker, Don Hopper, Jerry Woods and Joe Tucker.The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
