Mary Jo Coffman, age 96, peacefully entered her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at her Jackson residence.
She was born in Lineville, AL on December 2, 1926, the daughter of the late Louis and Gladys Stanford Ray. She was raised and attended elementary school in Washington, D.C. and finished high school in Birmingham, AL and attended the University of Alabama. Mary Jo came to Jackson and Madison County in 1951 and was employed with Highland Memorial Gardens and George A. Smith and Sons before retiring for a brief time before going back to work with Lawrence and Sorensen Funeral Home retiring in 1992.
She was one of the charter members of Northside United Methodist Church serving as their financial secretary for a number of years and later serving as the Sunday school superintendent and a member of the building committee, as well as a member of the United Methodist Women. Mary Jo waws very active in several organizations including the Jackson Chapter # 85 Order of the Easter Star serving as a Past Matron, the Altrusa Club of Jackson serving as a Past President, and the Reelfoot Council for the Girl Scout for five years.
She is survived by her Daughters-in-law, Rita F. Coffman, and Martha Coffman both of Jackson, TN, grandchildren, Anna Leigh Coffman Hart, and Sarah Elizabeth Coffman King and four great grandchildren, Landan Petty, Lyla Coffman, Aiden King, Gilbert King, and Samuel King.
She was preceded in death by her three children, Janet Coffman, Robert Joe Coffman, and Raymond L. Coffman.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2023, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Gerry Campbell officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
