Mary Katherine Butterfield, aged 88, of Jackson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, with her loving daughter by her side.

She was born on October 4, 1936, in Strawberry, Arkansas, the daughter of the late John Richard and Pearl Mize Penn.

Mary Katherine's educational journey took her to Business College in Memphis, Tennessee, where she acquired the skills that would serve her well throughout her career. She was employed with General Electric Credit Corporation for many years before joining Catherine's ladies’ fashionwear headquarters located in Memphis, where she dedicated her efforts to the Customer Service department, exhibiting both competence and warmth.

After moving to Jackson, TN she became a devout member of Woodland Baptist Church. Mary Katherine was deeply rooted in her faith. This connection was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her values and nurturing her spirit.

Her love for family was evident in all she did. She cherished the moments spent camping with her husband, engaging in her deep passion for reading the Bible, and celebrating the joys of life through the game of football. Mary Katherine was an enthusiastic fan of both Alabama and the Memphis Tigers, relishing the tradition of tailgating in Memphis before the games with her husband.

Mary Katherine is remembered fondly by her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Monica Thomas; daughter-in-law, Barbara Butterfield; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eldred Marshall Butterfield, her son Michael John Butterfield, she also grieved the loss of her brothers Thomas Penn, Fred Penn, and Harold Penn.

SERVICES: A visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until 3:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Rev. Stacy McCollum of Woodland Baptist Church officiating. A committal service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in Lancaster Cemetery in Strawberry, Arkansas.

The Pallbearers serving will be Travis Cartwright, Taylor Cartwright, Michael Butterfield, Cameron Butterfield, Matthew Thomas, and Gryphon Thomas.

Mary Katherine Butterfield's legacy of love, faith, and laughter will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a family that adored her and cherished every moment spent in her presence.
