Mary Nell Burleson entered her heavenly home on Monday, December 5, 2022, at the high-spirited age of 99 years and six months.
She was born June 3, 1923, in the Boones Creek Community of East Tennessee, the daughter of the late John Arthur and Estelle Pickens McCracken. Mary Nell was married for 66 years to William Dean Burleson, who preceded her in August 2010. Formerly of Nashville, TN, she enjoyed reading and studying her Bible daily, and was a faithful prayer warrior for family and friends as well as an encourager and mentor to many women. Mary Nell was an avid supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers through the good years as well as the bad years.
As the “Best Grandmother Ever,” her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her passion; her involvement as an active part of their lives was incredibly important to her. After Mary Nell and her husband Dean moved to Jackson 22 years ago, they became faithful members of Englewood Baptist Church. She was active in the Carol Bivens Bible Study and the Kirby Matheny Sunday school class.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Johnson and husband Mike of Shelby, NC; her son, Johnny Burleson and wife Pam of Jackson, TN; a sister, Bessie Leonard of Johnson City, TN; three grandchildren, Angie Knapp and husband John, Ben Burleson and wife Jenny, and Luke Burleson and wife Savannah; nine grandchildren, Reagan Knapp, John Michael Knapp, Riley Burleson, Brecken Burleson, Chandler Burleson, Dean Burleson, Whitt Burleson, Lainey Burleson, and Barrett Burleson.
