Lynn Alexander Mcnatt

Funeral services for Lynn Alexander McNatt will be held at First Christian Church on Monday, October 15 at 3:00 PM conducted by Family Members with burial to follow at Ridgecrest Cemetery in Jackson. Visitation will be at First Christian Church from 10:00 AM until funeral time. Pallbearers will be Jimmy McNatt, Tim McNatt, Mark Stooksbury, Alan Abbott, Don Abbott, Jeff Page, and Michael Page. McNatt, long-time musician and teacher, died on October 12 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. He was born in Luray, Tennessee on June 21, 1927, the son of James Witty and Minnie Alice Gilbert McNatt. In 1950 he organized the North Side High School Band and served as its director for thirty-one years. He is survived by his wife, Martha Abbott McNatt, of Jackson, his son, Terry McNatt and wife Mary Ruth of Knoxville, a daughter, Linda McNatt Page and husband David, of Jackson, four grandchildren and their spouses, Melody and Mark Stooksbury of Knoxville, Michelle and James Myers of Asheville, North Carolina, Jeff and Ashley Page of Nashville, and Michael and Mandy Page of Jackson, two great-grandchildren, Noah Myers and Katelyn Stooksbury.

Mr. McNatt served in the United States Army in the United States and in Germany at the end of World War II. Following his discharge, he enrolled in the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Union University and a Master’s Degree from Memphis State University. He touched the lives of hundreds of young musicians, including his band students, and many to whom he taught private lessons across West Tennessee. He was active in the Bandmasters Association and last year was named to the Bandmasters Hall of Fame in West Tennessee.

He was a long-time member of First Christian Church of Jackson where he served as Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Elder.
