Funeral services for Luther Daniel, age 101, will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 28, 2010 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Dr. Matt Tomlin and Rev. Ken Skelton officiating. Burial will follow at Independence Cemetery in Henderson County. Mr. Daniel died on Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Jackson Madison Co. General Hospital. He was born in Hardeman Co. on June 23, 1909, moving to Jackson, TN at an early age. He was the son of the late William A. Daniel and Florence Cottongim Daniel. Mr. Daniel was educated in the Madison Co. Schools of Jackson, TN and was a member of Wards Grove Baptist Church where he was chairman of the ushers for many years. During World War II, Mr. Daniel worked for Georgia Air Cadet Training School at McKeller Field, later transferred to Bennettsville, SC Air Training School. After receiving an honorable discharge and the closing of this school, he went to work at the Oak Ridge Atomic Plant, as a machinist and group leader, until the end of the war. Returning back to Jackson, TN, he owned and operated, Daniel Auto Clinic for many years retiring in 1972. Besides his parents, Mr. Daniel was preceded in death by his beloved wife of seventy-eight years, Pearl Gurley Daniel, a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Daniel, four sisters, Flossie Curry, Iola Kirby, Jewell Bowen and Elaine Pipkens and three brothers, Jennings Daniel, Floyd Daniel and Carlyle Daniel. Survivors included his two very caring and devoted sons, Johnnie Daniel and Robert Daniel and wife Linda; four grandchildren, Vickie Whittington and husband David, Kimberly Van Winkle, Jeff Daniel and wife Mary Beth and Kelli Beiter and husband Randy; five great grandchildren, Chase Matthew Daniel, Gracyn Brooke Van Winkle, Leven Rhea Van Winkle, Bryan Alan Beiter and Anna Beth Daniel and one brother Eugene Daniel. Pallbearers to serve will be O?Neal Henley, Johnny Cearley, Gene Blurton, Bud Sikes, John Wayne Williams and Jim Darby. The family will be receiving friends on Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Arrington Funeral Directors.
