Lawrence O. Cohen, 73, formerly of Memphis, TN died March 2, 2018. He was born July 28, 1944 in Memphis and was a graduate of Treadwell High School. Lawrence began a career in the grocery business, first working for Dixiemart/Corondelet stores in Memphis and then as an outside sales rep with Kraft for over 25 years and became known as “the cheese man”. After his move to Jackson, TN and the death of his son Lawrence, Jr, he became a very passionate scout leader. He was a mentor to many boys, other scout leaders and promoted fund raisers such as spaghetti suppers and bar-b-que dinners.
After he retired from Kraft, he became a substitute teacher at Liberty High School. Mr. Cohen will truly be missed by scouts, students, teachers, many friends and relatives.
He is survived by his loving wife Becky, who took wonderful care of him, a daughter Angela Hughes, sons Cameron Gatlin (Mary Catherine) and David Gatlin (Samantha), sister Debbie Cairncross, step-mother Sylvia Cohen, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 5, 4:00 – 6:00 PM, services Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 2:00PM, both at Arrington Funeral Directors, 148 W. University Parkway, Jackson, TN. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.
