She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord at age eleven, and was baptized in the First Baptist Church of Conroe, Texas. She was reared in a household, which, was in her own words, ?a Christian family of Bible believers with high moral values.? After her decision to follow Christ, her mother sat her down, and ?eye to eye, further explained to me and emphasized what an important decision I had made, and how every other decision I would make in life would be definitely influenced by this important decision.? Laura was known for her wonderful sense of humor, her compassion for others, and her devotion to prayer. ?My prayer forever for myself,? she said, ?is that I may glorify my God in all I say, do, think, and act upon!? Those who knew her saw this prayer acted out daily in her life. Even when her memory began to falter because of Alzheimers, she sang praises to God, recited scriptures she remembered, spoke often of her love for the Lord, and stressed to all whom she met the importance of ?living, loving, and laughing.?Thank-you, MotherFor teaching me not to take myself so seriouslyAnd for discovering the relief of laughing at myself; For sharing your sense of humor with me,Because it beams sunshine into dark corner; For teaching me to be creative,Because there? a special satisfaction in revising something old into something new;For sharing with me the challenge of learning new things,Because you so joyfully treasure each moment of life; For being my best critic because I know you are always honest with me;For teaching me that there are no ?little? people,That everyone is important in God?s eyes,And that He cares about all their feelings; For showing me how to love and respect my husband,As you love and respect my father; For teaching me to trust God,As I see you trust Him through all the changes in your life; For praying for me,For a Mother?s prayers are more valuable and powerful than all the world?s riches. All my love, Cindy
