LaRunda Jean McIver, age 61, of Rocky Point, NC, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2023, at Maplewood Healthcare in Jackson, TN, with loving family at her side.
LaRunda was born on Saturday, August 19, 1961, in Alexandra, VA, to the late Percy and Patty Burke McIver. LaRunda received an Associate of Applied Science from Wake Technical College in Raleigh, NC. She was a certified Radiology Technologist as well as a certified Chiropractic Assistant.
LaRunda spent most of her life in Wilmington, NC. She loved the beach and spent lots of time with family and friends at her family’s retreat at Topsail Beach and then later the beaches near Wilmington. She was known by her neighbors as the cat lady, as she always took care of stray cats in the neighborhood – or, for that matter, any stray animal that needed food and attention. She had a passion for watermelon, homemade ice cream, and Tennessee-grown tomatoes.
LaRunda was preceded in death by both of her parents and is survived by her brother, Michael McIver (Stacy) of Garner, NC; one nephew, Christopher (Cailin) McIver of Bueies Creek, NC; and two nieces, Elizabeth (Paul) Johnson and Natalie McIver, both of Garner, NC. She is also survived by her two uncles, Travis (Stephanie) Burke of Knoxville, TN, and Keith (Pam) Burke of Sanibel Island, FL, and her aunt Barbara Younger of McLemoresville, TN.
Several cousins also survive her including four: Sharon Younger of Memphis, TN; Kayla Taylor, of Jackson, TN; Lana Suite, of McLemoresville, TN; and Laura Guidi of Jackson, TN – who eagerly awaited her summer visits during childhood. She visited her grandmother, Brooksye Burke, for many years, and it was always an occasion for picnics and family gatherings.
SERVICE: A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, August 5th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at McLemoresville Cemetery, in McLemoresville, TN. She will always be our red-haired, brown-eyed girl.
