Lannie F. Powell, age 75, died Friday, January 20, 2023, at St. Thomas Midtown in Nashville, TN, with his family at his side.
Born in Dyer, TN on March 27, 1947, he was the son of the late Hollis Franklin and Genola Barber Powell. Lannie worked for Owens Corning in Jackson for many years and retired from Tower Manufacturing Company. He was Baptist in belief.
When he was young, he met a girl named Shirley Lowery, who he married. He and Shirley were married for 54 years.
Lannie was a practical jokester, to anyone and everyone he met, loving to laugh and to make others laugh. He enjoyed going to Kentucky Lake, where he taught many of his family members, and many others, how to ski and tube. If you were on a tube with Lannie driving the boat, chances were pretty good that you would get thrown from the tube and hear his laughter.
He was known as a “Jack of All Trades” or just a “Tinkerer.” He had a collection of clocks, and especially loved working on his Cuckoo Clocks. Working in his garden and caring for his many fur babies were important to him.
Those to forever cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shirley Lowery Powell of Trenton, TN; daughters, Amanda Sullivan and husband Ty of Jackson, TN, Tracy Halford and husband Jimmy of Atwood, TN and Kim Connell and husband Carey of Jackson, TN; a brother, James Hollis Powell and wife Barbara of Springville, TN; grandchildren, Carson Connell, Hunter Hill, and Madison Alexander and husband Alan, plus his five fur babies.
SERVICE: Lannie’s Celebration of Life will be at a later date.
