Joyce Lee "Petey" Gregory

Joyce Lee “Petey” Gregory, died peacefully on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at her Jackson residence.

Petey, as she was affectionately known, was born in Milan, TN on January 27, 1928, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Frances Thompson Newman. She was married to William “Bill” Gregory who preceded her in death in 2020. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Jackson where she faithfully served in ministry to “shut-in” members of the church, as a Sunday school teacher and later as a member of the Jerry Cullen Sunday School Class. She assisted her husband with Gregory Sign Company, was a bookkeeper with Watkins Construction Company and served as a “Grey Lady” with Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing with friends for many years.

In addition to her parents and husband, Petey was preceded in death by a son, Steve Gregory, a daughter, Lee Gregory, and a great grandson Will Gregory.

She is survived by her daughter, Molly Wright and husband Joel of Jackson, TN and a son, Lawrence Gregory of Jackson, TN; a sister, Jacqueline Williamson of Memphis, TN; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 26, 2022, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM prior to the service.
