John Cleveland (J.C.) Walker, Jr., age 89, died on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Jackson Madison County General Hospital, Jackson, TN.
J.C. was born in Willis, TX on June 24, 1925, the son of the late John C. Walker, Sr. and Bessie Dean Walker. He was married to Laura Dell Walker, his wife of 64 years, who preceded him in death on June 18, 2010. He and his wife were residents of Houston, TX until they moved to Jackson, TN to live with their daughter and her husband in 2006.
J.C. served his country in the United States Navy (Pacific Theater-Australia) during the Second World War. He retired from the Communications Industry as a broadcasting engineer.
Mr. Walker was a Christian and a lifelong member of the Southern Baptist Church, having served for many years as a deacon and Adult Sunday School Director in several Baptist churches. Along with his wife Laura, he enjoyed being involved in church outreach, homebound ministry, and nursing home ministry. For many years, he also helped run the sound equipment for Sunday worship. More recently, he assisted his daughter Cindy in the Calvary Baptist Church bus ministry visitation program. His main hobbies were gardening and home repair.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Bush (Randall) of Jackson, TN; a son, Gary Allen Walker (Loyce) of Kingwood, TX; a brother, Billy Walker of Willis, TX; three grandchildren, Audrey Walker Fox (Todd) and their two children Kasey and Kenzie; Christopher Bush (Bumni) and Laura Bush Anderson (Brett) and their child Adalynn.
SERVICE: A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2015 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
The family is requesting that memorial contributions be directed to the Bus Ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, 119 Oil Well Road, Jackson, TN 38305 or to the “Open the Doors” campaign for the new library at Union University, 1050 Union University Drive, Jackson, TN 38305.
