John Roland

Funeral services for John M. Roland, 89, will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, April 21, 2012 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Reverends Larry Koonce and Carl White officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM before the funeral service. Burial will follow in the Poplar Corner Cemetery. Mr. Roland died on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at his residence.Mr. Roland was born September 21, 1922 in Chester County, Tennessee to Edgar Freeland and Sarah Thomas Roland who preceded him in death. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of the Poplar Corner Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 50 years. He spent his spare time enriching the lives of his many nieces and nephews and was always willing to help those he felt were in need.He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Graple Roland; three brothers, Edgar Roland (Helen), Thomas Ray Roland (Nancy) and Charles Arthur Roland (Ann); and one sister, Annie V. Andrews Rushing. He is also survived by two special nieces who were like granddaughters to him, Charlie Carol Moore and Terri Ann Woods, as well as several other nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by a son, John Morris Roland; three brothers, Joe Noah Roland, William Roland, Jimmy Roland and three sisters, Theola Haynes, Dorothy Mayfield and Betty Darden.Pallbearers to serve will be his nephews Joe Roland, Rick Roland, Tommy Roland, Scott Roland, Freeland Scott and Michael Moore. Also serving will be special friends and neighbors, David Hart and John Neil Johnson.The family also wishes to express their gratitude to long time friends Sam and Ann Hudgins and Ray and Sue Bevis for their many acts of kindness through the years.
