John Francis Cotton, age 84, of Jackson, TN passed away peacefully Saturday, January 15, 2022 in the comfort of his home.
John was born September 13, 1937 in Dallas, TX to the late Walter Francis & Jessie Mae Gates Cotton. He was a brilliant mechanical engineer and spent many years working at Westinghouse/ABB creating inventions. There are 15 patents under his name! John was very involved in his Men’s Group at North Side Assembly of God Church. His hobbies included gardening, building things, and helping people. In his spare time, he volunteered with his North Side Assembly of God Church Men’s Group building ramps for the handicapped, helping people move, and cleaning his church. John honestly just loved people.
He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Doris Cotton; daughter, Carole Wheeler of Atlanta, GA; sons, Mike Cotton, Jay Cotton, and William “Bill” Cotton all of Atlanta, GA; step-son, James “Jim” Tankersley of Jackson, TN; brother, Charles Cotton (Dianne) of Alabama; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, & nieces.
Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann Hall of Seattle, WA and Barbara Jean Merritt of Austin, TX.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 11:00AM -1:00PM at Northside Assembly of God Church in Jackson, TN.
