Joanne Marie Holycross, age 82, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at the Van Ayer Healthcare and Rehab of Martin, TN.
A native of Danville, IL, she was born on October 31, 1932, the daughter of the late Robert Carter and Lillie Swisher Perkes. She was married to George Richard Holycross who preceded her in death on February 24, 2006. She and her husband were long time members of Trinity Lutheran Church of Danville, IL and later Concordia Lutheran Church of Jackson, TN. They enjoyed traveling, square dancing and roller skating, and were very active in their church and Trinity Lutheran School. She was an avid reader. She and her husband were members of a church pinochle group for over thirty years. She was a seamstress, making many of the children’s clothes. She and her husband built three homes together. Christmas was a very special time for her as she enjoyed going with her family, cutting their own tree each year to decorate. Her family was special to her and she enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Holycross and husband Michael Hatcher of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Jeannine Howard of Jackson, TN and Molly Azbill and husband Jerry of Jackson, TN; her son, Richard Holycross and wife Annalee of Winter Garden, FL; a brother, Robert Carter and wife Linda of Danville, IL; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son in law, Jim “J.T.” Howard on March 1, 2015.
SERVICES: A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Madison County.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM prior to the service.
