Jerry E. “Garry” Vales of Jackson, TN departed this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Jackson Madison-County General Hospital at the age of 74.
Jerry (or Garry to some) was born April 24, 1948 in Caruthersville, MO to the late Elbert Fort Vales and Buna Hall Vales. Whether people knew him as Garry or Jerry, everyone knew him as a talented musician, drummer, and songwriter. He actually went on tour with Carl Perkins and has performed with other famous musicians, including Willie Nelson, Barbara Mandrell, and the Larry Brinkley Combo. His other hobbies included golfing, fixing up cars and trucks, and antiquing. He liked antiques so much that he opened his own antique shop for some time.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Vales; loving children, Steven Vales, Stephanie Suzanne Ryan, Kimberly Michelle Weir (Randy), Scott Garrett (Rose), and Rebecca Lucy (Mike); grandchildren, Melody Corbin, Julia Naylor (Casey), Shelby Whiteaker, Nick Ryan, Heather Weir, Andrew Weir, Jessica Weir, Ben Weir, Timmy Weir, Ethan Giles, Dawson Giles, Isabella Lucy, Hailey Garrett, Landon Garrett, and Meadow Garrett; and great-grandchildren, Gage Corbin, Emma Elick, Ezra Naylor, Liam Naylor, Hayden Weir, and Aerial Dixon.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Vales.
SERVICES: A celebration of life service will take place 2:00PM Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors, with Brother Ronnie Coleman officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00PM-2:00PM prior to the service. Following the service, a graveside service will be held at 4:00PM at Silerton Baptist Cemetery in Silerton, TN.
