Jay Benthal, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2024. Jay was born to the late Grady and Elaine (Dickson) Benthal on November 19, 1942, in Beech Bluff, TN.
Jay was married to Sue Summer for 34 years. After Sue’s death, Jay married Linda West Benthal and were happily married for 27 years. He worked at both Owens Corning Fiberglass and Berry Plastic.
He was a Legacy member of West Jackson Baptist Church and served in many ministry positions, including Past President of Christian Motorcycles Association, Steel Horse Prophets of Jackson, Prison Ministry with Bill Glass, Weekend of Champions and then Ministry at Whiteville. Jay was also a member of the Patriot Guard, a member of the Legacy class at West Jackson Baptist Church and served in the Security Dept.
Jay loved mission trips to South Africa and Thailand. He also enjoyed to travel and read western and WWII books.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Linda West Benthal; three children, Rhonda Phillips (Davie), Christy Gooch (Jeff), and Jeff Benthal (Christine); six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Highland Memorial Gardens to honor his memory.
The family requests that there be no flowers sent and instead send donations in Jay’s memory to the Steel Horse Prophets #709 Chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association at 46 Ellendale Cove, Jackson, TN 38305 or to West Jackson Baptist Church at 580 Oil Well Road, Jackson, TN 38305.
