Dr. James Wallace Mosley, Jr., of Sugar Tree, TN passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Tennessee State Veteran’s Home in Humboldt, TN, at the age of 87.
He was born September 14, 1934, in Dyer, TN to the late James Wallace Mosley, Sr. and Mildred Clara (Hall) Mosley. Other than his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, Steve Mosley and his sister, Geraldine “Gerri” Essary and her husband Durell. Dr. Mosley was also preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years Sandra Sue (Gassner) Mosley.
After graduating in 1962 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, Dr. Mosley became a licensed optometrist in January 1963 until he voluntarily retired on September 30, 2000. Before retirement, Dr. Mosley had a private practice on Baltimore Street in Jackson, TN, where he worked side by side with his wife Sandra for many years.
In addition to his service to his community as an optometrist, he also served in the United States Air Force. He was proudly nicknamed “Doc,” “Jim” and “Papa Jim.” Dr. Mosley was a man of many interests. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and once killed three ducks with a single shot. He enjoyed fishing, golf and walks with friends and family.
His memory will be forever loved and cherished by those who survive him, his sons, Stan Wallace Mosley of Johnson City, TN and Keith A. Mosley of Elizabethton, TN; his stepchildren; grandchildren including Miranda Mosley Sanders and husband Brandon, Lyndsey Mosley, Cara Mosley, and Dr. Amber Mosley and husband Shane Schmidt; and four great-grandchildren.
SERVICE: A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors.
