Hazel McCollum Deaton, 94, died Thursday evening, July 16, 2015 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
She was born May 4, 1921, in Henderson County Tennessee, the daughter of A. L. and Cluster Moore Jowers. She was an instructor and co-owner of McCollum and Ross University of Beauty Culture. Having been a charter member of Englewood Baptist Church, her devotion to Englewood was known by all who knew her. She was a member of the Paul Williams Sunday School class for many years.
Hazel is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 15 years, Howard Deaton of Jackson, TN, two great nieces, which she referred to as “The light of her life”, Teresa Wood Morris (Bob), Cristy Wood Baggett (Joe), one great nephew Greg Wood all of Lexington, TN, two great-great nephews, Cody Morris (Kayla), of Nashville, TN, Landen Baggett of Lexington, TN, two step-daughters, Jeanette Deaton Holt (Bobby), Diane Deaton Davis (Jimmy), five step-grandchildren, Jennifer Hicks (John), Mike Holt (Julie), Megan Holt, Robert Holt, Audree Holt, three step-great-grandchildren, Tyler Hicks, Jennabeth Hicks and Jorja Hicks.
She was preceded in death her husband Paul McCollum, of Jackson, TN, sisters Opal Jowers Wood, Ruby Jowers, Ruthie Blankenship and brother Al Jowers all of Lexington, TN.
SERVICE: Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 3:00PM in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Dr. Philip Jett and Dr. Brent Lay officiating. Interment will be in Hare Cemetery in Lexington, TN. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00PM until the time of the service at 3:00PM at the funeral home.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Englewood Baptist Church, 2239 N. Highland Ave., Jackson, TN 38305.
