Harry Hays Barnes passed away peacefully at West Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt, Tennessee on the morning of December 18, 2023. Harry's departure marked the end of a remarkable journey filled with love, kindness, and dedication.

He was born on December 31, 1948, in Jackson, TN, the son of the late Norman and Helen Hays Barnes.  Harry enjoyed a fulfilling life that touched the hearts of many. He was a man of many interests and passions. As an avid fan of the University of Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves, he passionately cheered for his favorite teams throughout their successes and challenges. Sunday afternoons were reserved for watching golf, immersing himself in the peacefulness and precision of the sport. Harry also found solace in listening to inspirational music by artists such as The Gaither Vocal Band and The Gaither's.

Aside from his personal pursuits, Harry had proudly served in the United States Navy, where he demonstrated unwavering loyalty to his country. His military service was a testament to his character and commitment to upholding noble values.  He was a dedicated employee of the United States Postal Service and a life-long member of West Jackson Baptist Church.

Harry will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. He leaves behind cherished memories with his beloved wife, Betsy Bailey Barnes of Jackson, TN; his daughter, Kelly Prince of Nashville, TN; Harry's extended family also mourns his loss. His mother-in-law, Georgia M. Bailey of Jackson, TN; his sister-in-law, Sheri Moon and husband Dale of Jackson, TN; brother-in-law, R.E. "Tobe" Bailey III of Jackson, TN; his niece, Nikki Castles and husband Jonathan of Jackson, TN; nephew, Karl Swor of Knoxville.  And a cousin that was like a sister, Terri Ann Webb, and her husband Benton of Jackson, TN.

A service honoring Harry’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023, in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Mr. Tim Fortner officiating. The Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Arrington Funeral Directors beginning at 12:00 p.m. and continuing until 2:00 p.m.

Pallbearers to serve will be R.E. “Tobe” Bailey III, Karl Swor, Dale Moon, Justin Bush, Jim Webb, Woody Williams, Danny Vaughn and Dan Cathey.

Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Benton Webb, Mike “Smitty” Smith, Larry Smith, Joe White, Kenny Burke and Herman Odle.

Harry will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to service, and his unyielding spirit. May his memory live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing him.
