Harold Petty, age 75, entered his heavenly home on Friday afternoon, July 7th, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Harold touched the lives of many through his various roles in the community and will be deeply missed.
Born on Sunday, July 20th, 1947, in Reagan, Tennessee, he was the son of Ellis and Frances Johnson Petty. He graduated from Frazier High School in 1965. Harold lived a remarkable life filled with accomplishments and cherished memories. He had an esteemed military career proudly serving his country with honor and dedication in United States Marine Corp from 1966-1972.
Harold owned Dumplins Restaurant for 10 years, where he created a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all who entered its doors. His commitment to providing excellent service and delicious food made Dumplins a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
Before his restaurant venture, Harold dedicated 28 years of hard work to Cox Oil Company of Union City, TN where he served as President. His contributions to the company were invaluable, and he left an indelible mark on the organization that will be remembered for years to come.
Harold's commitment to public service extended beyond the business world. Not only did he represent District 10 on the Madison County Commission for 9 years, he was a very respected leader of the commission, serving on many committees over the years. Commissioner Petty is missed doing commission work. He also served on the Board of Directors Exchange Club Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
Serving as Assistant Jail Administrator for Madison County Sheriff's Department, he played a vital role in maintaining safety within the community. His dedication and professionalism earned him the respect of his colleagues throughout his tenure.
Those who knew Harold will always recall his big smile and genuine desire to help others. He had an innate ability to make everyone feel at ease in his presence. Whether it was providing assistance or simply lending a listening ear, Harold had a heart full of kindness and compassion. He was a believer in Jesus Christ, a faithful member of Englewood Baptist Church and was a member of the Jim Strait Class. With his experience, he worked on the church security team.
Outside of work, Harold found joy in indulging one of his passions: motorcycles. The freedom of the open road brought him great happiness, allowing him to escape from the demands of daily life and embrace the thrill of adventure.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 38 years, Judy Hutson Petty, who was his pillar of strength throughout their journey together. Their unwavering bond and deep love for one another were an inspiration to all. He is also survived by his children, Ron Petty (Angie), of Jackson, TN, Bridget Holloway (Scot), of Jackson, TN, Tisha Julian (Dustin), of Humboldt, TN, Brent Hutson (Shelly), of Fincastle, VA; his sister, Sharon Cooper, of Collierville, TN, as well as his cherished grandchildren: Bryce and Cade Petty, Savannah Beaton, Karsen and Kallie Holloway; and Halle and Rachel Hutson.
