George H. Gompf, Sr. died peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital at the age of 87.
He was born in Dayton, OH, the son of the late James Herbert and Rozella Baker Gompf. He served his country, retiring from the United States Air Force with 24 years of active duty. Following his Air Force career, he worked in Middle-Tennessee in Quality Engineering and retired from Dessa International as the Manchester Plant Quality Manager.
George returned to Tennessee seven years ago from his retirement in Silver City, New Mexico to be near his son and family in Jackson, Tennessee. George is survived by his wife, Peggy Brewer Gompf; his son, George H. Gompf, Jr and wife Deborah; daughter, Rose Mullins; brother, Thomas Gompf, four grandchildren, Jaime Gompf, Ainsley Shidler, William Wilson, and Christopher Wilson, and five great-grandchildren.
SERVICE: A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Parkers Crossroads, with Rev. Chuck Maxwell officiating. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Grant County 4-H youth shotgun program in which he devoted many years as coach.
