Gail McCullar

Martha Gail McCullar, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was a remarkable woman whose life was characterized by her unwavering compassion, humility, and love for those around her.

Born on Thursday, July 10, 1944, in Jackson, TN, Gail was the daughter of Samuel E. and Martha Jo Mason Williams. Her young years were in Milan where her father worked at Milan Arsenal. Her family moved to Jackson where she graduated from Jackson High School. Gail furthered her education at business school, working several years before she left to raise her children.

She spent 55 beautiful years with her husband, Glenn McCullar, affectionately building a life together filled with cherished memories. Gail’s dedication to family was paramount; she found immense joy in celebrating holidays, birthdays, and special gatherings, which often included horsing around, camping, and playing cards. She and Glenn developed a love for NASCAR many years ago, attending several races, but if not, would always watch it on the weekends. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to Gail, as the time spent together reaffirmed her belief that family was where her heart truly resided. The front porch was a favorite pastime for her, where she would sit and take time for herself.

Gail became an avid lover of horses as a young child, and her passion for riding developed into a fulfilling pursuit that brought her numerous accolades, including 37 world championship titles and 15 reserve titles. Her talents and sportsmanship not only earned her recognition but also allowed her to pass on the love of riding to her children and grandchildren. Her last ride was only a few years ago, and it was as if she was 8 years old again.

In addition to her many accomplishments, Gail was known for her humble and loving spirit. To forever cherish her life, she leaves her husband Glenn McCullar of Jackson, TN. Her children, Tracey Askew (Buddy) and Mark McCullar (Kelley), both of Jackson, TN, received not only her guidance and support but also her unwavering belief in the power of prayer. Her heart extended to her grandchildren, Justin Wright (Tanya), Patrick Wright (JoAnn), James McCullar (Anna Claire), Chelsea Parker (Josh), and Hunter Clemmons (Andrea), as well as her great-grandchildren, Landon Lewis, Mason Wright, Ryder Wright, Elsie Wright, Neyland Wright, Brody Parker, Dehn Parker, and Riley Clay McCullar. Each relationship she nurtured reflected her deep commitment to family. There are many who she considered her “adopted family,” as her heart included them in her life, who will also miss her immensely.

She faced her cancer diagnosis just days after celebrating her milestone 80th birthday, demonstrating the strength and grace that characterized her life. Her personality radiated warmth, honesty, and a fun-loving spirit that brought joy to everyone she met. Gail knew and loved the Lord, leaning on him even more later in life.
