Frances T. Edmonson

Frances T. Edmonson, age 92, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. 

She was born on July 16, 1932, in Selma, Alabama, the daughter of the late Roy L. and Frances Digmon Tucker. 

Frances dedicated her life to her family, her work, and her community. Frances was employed with Jackson State Community College for an impressive forty-two years, serving as their Registrar. Her commitment to education was evident as she continued her role until the age of 80, touching the lives of countless students and faculty alike. Frances was deeply passionate about supporting the academic journeys of others.

A cherished member of her community, she enjoyed hosting gatherings and was known for often welcoming Dr. Edmonson's students into her home for meals. Frances was a long-time member of the former Altrusa Club, where she shared her talents and fostered connections with other passionate individuals. Her commitment to service was further demonstrated through her faithful membership at West Jackson Baptist Church since 1965.

Frances, affectionally known as Gran-Gran to her family, is survived by her loving son, James D. Edmonson and wife Shelley of Corinth, MS; daughters, Betsy Porter and husband Dwight of Jackson, TN, and Deborah Thoni and husband Kevin of Orlando, FL; sister, Hazel Hacker of Decatur, AL; as well as fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James H. Edmonson and sister, Lucinda Brooks. 

Frances was a giving individual, not only to her family but also to various organizations, reflecting the tremendous love and compassion she held in her heart.

Visitation for Frances T. Edmonson will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. and continuing until 11:00 a.m., followed by a service to celebrate Frances’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Rev. Lonnie Sanders of West Jackson Baptist Church and Rev Chris Cooksey of Aldersgate Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.

The family is requesting that memorial contribution in memory of Mrs. Edmonson be directed to Aldersgate Methodist Church, 1050 N. Parkway, Jackson, TN, 38305.

Frances leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her.
