Florence Deweese Elliott, age 92 of Jackson, TN, passed away peacefully in her home on December 15th, 2021. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 7th, 1929, to Ell and Helen Deweese. She attended Blandville High School in Blandville, Kentucky and Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. She married Roy Glen “Bob” Elliott on July 27th, 1946.
Mrs. Elliott taught Kindergarten for West Jackson Baptist Church from 1968-1981 and loved her students and coworkers dearly. She had a beautiful sense of style and loved working at Kathleen’s, a ladies retail store located inside the Old Hickory Mall until the early 90’s. She made many friends there and enjoyed keeping up with current fashion. She also worked at Baby World, at the time Jackson’s only high-end nursery boutique that she later co-owned with her youngest daughter LaNette. She loved dressing her grandchildren in the stylish clothing and always wanted them to have the best.
Mrs. Elliott was a talented artist and was very gifted in all areas of design and décor. She knew what colors and fabrics were most complimentary, and she kept a beautiful home and enjoyed celebrating all seasons and making sure to always be on trend. She had a solution for any problem that arose. She could make “something out of nothing” and it would be exquisite. Her granddaughters often say that she had more answers than Google and may have even been the silent creator of Pinterest. We all know that she was dressed to impress, always. She had a knack for making jewelry and accessories. If she could not find pieces to perfectly coordinate with her clothing, she would make her own! She ministered to many, whether young and old, and she served many people by sewing alterations in her home. A sense of peace was always tangible in the Elliott residence.
Anyone who knew her knew how much she loved, “her girls,” her beloved daughters, DeeDee and Net. Her gracious and loving spirit drew people to her, and she genuinely cared for everyone she called “friend.” As much as her family will miss her it is a comfort to know that she is reunited with Bro. Bob, her beloved husband of 73 years. As grandchildren would exit her home after a hug and a kiss, that soft familiar voice would be heard, “Now, y’all be sweet” as they waved goodbye. May the legacy of Mrs. Florence be found in us all as we are intentional about “being sweet.” She was the sweetest.
Flo is predeceased by her husband, Dr. R. G. (Bob) Elliott; sister, Mary Helen Flournoy; and brother, Fred Deweese.
Survivors are her daughters, DeeDee Moore (J.C.) of Jackson, TN and LaNette Buckley (Bill) of Jackson, TN; a brother, Ell Edward Deweese; and seven grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Morgan Moore Hornsby (Jason), Jonathan Elliott Cain, Jackson Glen Cain, Jesse Tyler Cain, Trey Buckley and Tyler Buckley (Brittany).
