The Celebration of the life of Faye Pearl Hutcherson Smith will be held at 1:00 P.M, Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Poplar Heights Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith departed this life on January 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness at Tennessee State Veterans Home.
Born to Jurdon Carl Hutcherson and Pearl Jane Robinson Hutcherson, in McNairy County on April 24, 1928, Mrs. Smith was the youngest of eight children.
She graduated from Finger Junior High and was a member of the 1946 graduating class of Chester County High School. She attended West Tennessee Business College and then worked for Dr. Baker Hubbard in his medical practice.
Mrs. Smith married James Loyd Smith on April 17, 1948, in Corinth, MS, with the Reverend D.L. Hill officiating. Mr. Smith established James L. Smith Cabinet Company as a licensed contractor and Mrs. Smith assisted him as Secretary/Assistant for the next 40 years as the business grew an established reputation for building “custom homes”.
Mrs. Smith and her husband joined Poplar Heights Baptist Church on January 22, 1950. She served her church well and supported it in many areas such as The Women’s Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School, teaching both Adult and Children’s classes and as a faithful Deacon’s wife. Her church family was extremely important to her as she strived to live a life representative of Christian principles and to provide love and encouragement to those around her daily.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Jane Smith Wilkinson (Dale) of Jackson, TN, a son, James Loyd Smith II (Cynthia) of Humboldt, TN; grandchildren, Brandon King (fiancée, Kristen), Rachel Smith, Drew Smith and Nathan Smith; a brother, James Ward Hutcherson (Margaret); Brother-in-law, Charles R. Smith (Mary Lou); Sisters-in-Law, Louise Smith Sparrow and Bonna Smith Middleton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Loyd Smith on May 6, 2006. Siblings preceding her in death were brothers, Carl, Belver and Paul Hutcherson and sisters, Jo Hutcherson Stanfield, Opal Hutcherson McCormick and Juanita Hutcherson Russum.
Pallbearers to serve will be Brandon King, Dale Wilkinson, Russ Gilbert, Gary Smith, Dr John Sparrow, Chuck Smith, Jerry McCormick, Chris Davis and Bill Forsythe.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Poplar Heights Baptist Church, “The Brewer House”, 1980 Hollywood Drive, Jackson, TN 38305.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, January 17th, 2013, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Popular Heights Baptist Church.
