Ernest Stubbs, Jr.

November 4, 1938 — August 11, 2022

Ernest Stubbs Jr., also affectionately known as Sunnyman, was born November 4, 1938, in Ruleville Mississippi. He was the second of eight children born to the late Mary Erving and Ernest Stubbs, Sr. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Willie Stubbs; sisters, Kathleen Stubbs and Ruthie Stubbs, and one grandson, Marcus Fulgern.
Ernest received his education at Goldfield School in Ruleville, Mississippi. He then went to live in New York, Homestead Florida, and finally settled in Chicago in 1960, where he met Selena, whom he affectionately called SL. They married on December 22, 1965. Ernest first accepted Christ at Indiana Avenue Pentecostal Church of God in Chicago Illinois, where Bishop Charles Davis presided. In 1995, Ernest was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. After 35 years of working, he retired from his job at Signode. In 2001, he and Selena relocated to Jackson Tennessee, where they attended and became members at Lighthouse Church, under the guidance of Pastor Ronald Brown and current Pastor Donald Lance.
Ernest loved the Lord and reading his Bible and he never missed a day. He would get up in the morning and devote his first waking hours reading his Bible. Another of his favorite past times was fishing and keeping his yard beautifully manicured; not a branch or leaf out of place. In the later years when he couldn’t keep the yard the way he liked it, he would call one of his sons, or grandson (woop woop), whichever was available, but follow them around to make sure everything was done to his satisfaction. He would call you on the phone and say, “Hey what’s going on, what you up too” and before you could answer he would say, “Well ok, I’ll be talking with you.”

On Thursday August 11, 2022, at 11:33 p.m., Ernest was called home to rest with his family by his side.
Ernest leaves to carry on his legacy and forever memories, his devoted wife of 57 years, Selena Stubbs; six children, James Fulgern (Sharron), Lynette Marie Gray (Darin), Timothy Fulgern Stubbs, (Patricia), Carvel Fulgern Stubbs, Sherry Poindexter Stubbs (William), Ernest Stubbs III (Nichole); twenty grandchildren, Kecia Mitchell, Tomika Chatman, William Chatman, Darin Gray Jr., Jalon Poindexter, Jamari Poindexter, Joshua Poindexter, Aaron Stubbs, Dionte Stubbs, Khalil Harrison Stubbs, Eriana Stubbs, Iyana Stubbs, Isaiah Stubbs, Teaira Seaton, Jamila Webster, Erika Fulgern, Tatiana Lenyai, Jedidiah Fulgern, Carlina Fulgern, and Carvel Fulgern, Jr.; and18 great-grandchildren. Ernest also leaves to cherish his memory his siblings, Virginia Norris, Ella Smith, Fannie Stubbs, and Charles Stubbs (Donita).
Ernest loved the Lord, and his words of wisdom will be deeply missed.
