She is also survived by grandchildren Jason (Katie) Baxter, Justin(Brittany) Baxter, Josh (Allison) Baxter, Leslie (Austin) Rettig, Amy (Chris) Johnson, Callie Baxter, six great grandchildren (and two more expected in 2017).
She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mrs. Baxter taught at Lambuth College and Southside High School.
She was a member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Baxter was a past regent of Daughters of the American Revolution. An avid bridge enthusiast, she played in many bridge groups over the years.
Mrs. Baxter was a true "southern lady" who was active in her community and church, and she touched many lives. Though she will be greatly missed, her influence will live on through family members, dear friends, and past students.
At her request, a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 26, 2017, at the Henderson City Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to share in this celebration of Mrs. Baxter's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Youth Town of Tennessee, American Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
In addition we know Eleanor would want to give special recognition to her wonderful caregivers that she was so fortunate to have by her side from late December 2016 to the very end. Their names are Kia, Carol, Toni, Na Na, and Murla. They were an inspiration to Eleanor. Thank you so much.
