Dortha Nell Phillips

Dortha Nell Phillips, age 97, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Morningside Assisted Living in Jackson, TN, her home for the past nine years, where she was cared for with love and compassion.
The family would like to give a special thank you to West Tennessee Hospice, and the staff, the beautician, excellent nurses and her caring aides at Morningside for the kind and wonderful personal care they gave her.
Dortha was born April 30, 1919 in Murray, KY to the late Lottie and Joe Key.
She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her.
She was a faithful member of Lambuth Memorial United Methodist Church, Jackson, TN, a charter member of the Memorial Sunday School Class, and taught in the Primary and Junior Departments. She and her husband, organized a young married couples Sunday school class there. In recent years, she changed her membership to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Jackson, TN.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by two daughters, Ann Bell (Larry) of Jackson, TN and Carolyn Sigman of Cordova, TN and granddaughter, Patty Jaco of Jackson, TN and a half-sister, Glenda Hood (H.D.) of Punta Gorda, FL. She has four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 64 years, A.L. “Buck” Phillips, son, David Phillips, grandson, Philip Bell, son-in-law, Bill Sigman and grandson-in-law, Ken Jaco.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 20, 2017 at Highland Memorial Gardens with Dr. Barry Scott officiating. Burial will follow there.
